No idea what to do with your wedding decorations? We have tons of theme-based ideas right here.

1950s Wedding Decorations

Choosing the right venue will save you a lot of decorations, so we’re great advocates of choosing the perfect venue.

If you’re going for a less formal wedding reception, then a retro pub or a malt shop will be quite appropriate as your wedding location. But if you prefer something classier, there are lots of hotels and inns which still bear the right dated atmosphere, which should meet your need for a classy place and the right 1950s feel.

If you think you still need further decorations to highlight your chosen theme, then adding anything related to these elements will further accentuate it – polka dots, poodle skirt, jukebox, vinyl records, Elvis Presley, (and other 1950s artists), and Coca Cola are just a few examples.

We’ll leave the color to you, but we think that your tablecloth should have polka dots to make them perfect for your 1950s wedding.

For your table decorations, we think using one of those old Coca Cola bottles as your flower vase will work as your centerpiece. So will a collection of vinyl records in a stand of some sort. If you don’t mind going for edible centerpieces, we think that a bowl or shallow dish containing retro candies from the 50s will make you a colorful centerpiece and at the same time, can satisfy your guests’ sweet tooth. So will dotted cupcakes in a cake stand of some sort.

However, we love personalized centerpiece ideas so we’re pitching this in. How about some black and white photos showcasing you and your future hubby in a romantic pose? Or better yet, pick a romantic 1950s movie of your choice and arrange everything so you and your groom can do a scene or pose from said movie. Whether you go one way or the other, we think that having this photo as your table decoration will be very theme-based and a wonderful addition to your guest tables.

We will leave it to you whether to get balloons, but if you happen to be among the group of people who feels their wedding will not be complete without balloons, feel free to add balloons in your chosen motif and that should still work with the other things you have prepared for your 1950s wedding.

Alice in Wonderland Wedding Decorations

Choosing the right venue will save you a lot of decorations, so we’re great advocates of choosing the perfect venue.

You have an option to go for an inn with the right British atmosphere, a castle courtyard (or something similar), or a hotel’s ballroom. If at one glance it doesn’t seem like a wonderland to you, no worries, since that is where the rest of the decorations will come in.

If your location comes with lots of trees, then adding a balloon tree or two amidst those trees will help set the right atmosphere. Balloon trees are basically a bunch of balloon arranged on trunk-like cardboard to make you a tree. Balloons here can be red and/or white. They can come in your typical oblong shape, or better yet, get some card suit shaped ones, especially heart, since who can forget the Queen of Hearts, right?

On your reception room entrance, asking friends to act like guards wearing a card suit costume is quite cool. We also think adding an arc made of balloons in the shape of the different card suits will add a lot to the atmosphere you want to set. We also attended an Alice party which required us to drink a concoction, which is supposed to shrink us and allow us to enter a “small” door. We loved it, and if you think this idea is a great addition to your wedding, then be sure to add this one.

The great thing about Alice and friends is that there are lots of elements that you can make use of that can aid your decorations and here are just a few samples: tea pots and cups, chess pieces, flamingo, card suits, queen of hearts, Cheshire cat, mushrooms, that caterpillar, and who can forget Mr. White Rabbit and his famous time piece? A giant photo or decorated cutouts of said elements planted on the right places will further stress your love for Alice.

If you are up to it, you can even invite someone to stand as the King and Queen of Hearts, although we don’t see a problem if you and your hubby decided to do so yourselves. Just make sure you have your crowns and your thrones properly set on the right location and you’re all set.

Something white and lacey can be your tablecloth, and your centerpiece can be a mix of red or white roses. We also love flowers in a tea pot although if you can find a hat similar to the Mad Hatter’s hat, you can turn it upside down, fill it with lots of flowers and voila, you have a cute centerpiece right there. Another option is to get heart-shaped balloons to replace those flowers, or maybe heart-shaped cookies or candies, if you prefer edible centerpieces.

We adore personalized centerpieces, so if you and your hubby doesn’t mind dressing up ala King and Queen of Hearts, and getting your photos taken, that photo will be a great decoration to adorn your guest tables.

If you have a lot of tables, we think that numbering them will make it easier for your friends to locate their assigned tables. You can use different cards as your table number, so this means one of your guests can be in Ace Spade table, while another is in the King of Hearts table. But if you prefer a more straightforward numbering, you can still make it creative by associating each table number to an Alice in Wonderland character, so table 1 can be written in the Cheshire cat cutout, table 2 in a photo of the Queen of Hearts and so on.

And to conclude our wedding decoration ideas, you can choose to get tons of diamond, clover, spade and heart-shaped balloons, but if that is too much, then just get a mix of red, white and black balloons and those will work as well.

Asian Wedding Decorations

Choosing the right venue will save you a lot of decorations, so we’re great advocates of choosing the perfect venue.

There’s nothing like an authentic Chinese or Japanese restaurant as a perfect venue for your Asian wedding reception. Since these restaurants usually come with traditional decorations of Japanese lanterns or Chinese-looking chandeliers, more often than not, they already come with the right ambiance such that you only need to do a wee bit more for decoration purposes.

If you feel you still need more decorations to accentuate your chosen theme, then you must use these different Asian elements for your decorations -  Chinese vases, dragons in all shapes and sizes, paintings with lots of cherry blossoms, Japanese lanterns, chopsticks, Chinese takeout boxes, fortune cookies, Ang Paos or the popular red envelopes and of course, Chinese characters about love and happiness. The Chinese character which means Double Happiness is very popular in weddings and is definitely worth adding. Not familiar with it? Be sure to check out our invitation page for reference.

A solid red table cloth can adorn your guest tables. You have lots of choices for your centerpiece, which can be one of the following: a rectangle plate with Asian spoons (each Asian spoon can contain candies or fruits), a Japanese lantern, a bowl full of fortune cookies, some of those green and lucky bamboos, or a Chinese vase with lotuses.

We will leave it to you on whether to get balloons, but if you do decide to do so, we think that red balloons are worthy additions to what you have prepared so far. If you want to go beyond ordinary balloons, we saw some dragon balloons (a collection of balloons designed to look like a dragon) and we think they’ll elevate what you have prepared so far to the next level!

Baseball Wedding Decorations

Choosing the right venue will save you a lot of decorations, so we’re great advocates of choosing the perfect venue.

Having your wedding and/or wedding reception right in the middle of a baseball field (or other areas where you can imagine playing baseball) is the best location to have your dream baseball wedding. That should already give you some of the necessary atmosphere you want on your big day, but if you think you still need to add more, you can add some gloves, bats, caps, balls, banners, and shirts with logos and names of popular baseball teams in the picture. If you want to go beyond that, we love the idea of an ice sculpture of a guy in the act of hitting the ball so we’re pitching that in. We also think that adding some baseball chairs (shaped like a baseball glove or ball) will make you and your groom some cool seats, not to mention a cool addition to your home after the wedding.

You can use some table cloth with baseball prints or just ones with solid colors following your favorite team’s colors to adorn your guest tables. That, plus the following centerpiece ideas will put your chosen theme right where you want it.

For your centerpiece, you can choose to get teddy bears with sporty design (there are some which are designed with baseball in mind). Attach a teddy bear in an old wine bottle, use said bottle as flower vase and voila, you have a pretty and sporty centerpiece right there. You can also get some transparent jars, fill it with baseballs, and whether you add some balloons or flowers in the picture, that will be a cool wedding centerpiece as well. Replacing those balls with Baby Ruths will also be fitting and therefore worth considering.

Whether you go for balloons with baseball designs or just ordinary-looking ones, choosing a balloon that follows your wedding motif will ensure that whatever you get will be a perfect addition to what you have prepared so far.

Beach Wedding Decorations

Choosing the right venue will save you a lot of decorations, so we’re great advocates of choosing the perfect venue.

And the cool thing about this theme and having it along the beach is that you have instant decoration and ambiance right there!

But if you feel you still need more decorations to accentuate your theme and you happen to be having a night beach wedding reception, some outdoor lanterns here and there will add to the atmosphere you’re aiming for. We also think that placing some bamboo wind chimes in the right places will not just give you something pretty to look at but will also give you some great sounds as the wind blows. Flowers are great for decorations and a beach wedding requires a lot of colorful flowers in the right places to make it perfect.

Some romantic sand art here and there will not be amiss. If you are having a night reception, we think that digging some holes in the sand and placing some candles in the holes can add a lot to the atmosphere you’re aiming for.

You and your new hubby definitely need the right seat on your wedding day and we think that a pair of beach chairs strategically placed will serve as your seats of honor. These will be a great addition to what you have prepared so far.

A white and lacy table cloth can adorn your guest tables. To add more pizzazz to your table, we think that a shallow dish containing some water, an orchid or two and a floating candle is a cool centerpiece idea. If you prefer another idea, we think that seashells submerged in a jar of water is really pretty, not to mention very theme-based. But if you absolutely love flowers and thinks that a table won’t be properly adorned if there’s no flower in sight, then birds of paradise (or other tropical flowers) in an elegant vase will be more to your taste.

We will leave it to you on whether to get balloons, but we think that balloons that come in the color of the more popular tropical flowers (orange, yellow, hot pink, etc) are the balloons that you want in your beach wedding.

Black Wedding Decorations

Choosing the right venue will save you a lot of decorations, so we’re great advocates of choosing the perfect venue.

Going for a posh place goes hand in hand with a black wedding theme, and that should still give you a lot of choices.

You can go for old but elegant and choose a castle or some similar edifice as your wedding location, which should give you some old-fashion ambiance that you cannot get if you go for an elegant but modern place. If you prefer the outdoors, then a castle courtyard or something similar should also work.

However, if you admire anything modern, then choosing a classy restaurant or better yet, an elegant hotel as your wedding location is the way to go.

Those locations should give you the right atmosphere, but if you feel you still need more decorations to accentuate your theme, then you must use these different elements for your decorations. Some grand-looking chandelier, silver and crystals in the right places, antique mirrors and paintings hanging from your walls, large oriental vases on certain areas plus never ending carpets can help you reach the right level of elegance. You can also position a Queen Anne or Sheraton style sofa/chair at the center, which is the perfect seat of any bride and groom couple.

A lacy table cloth in black can adorn your guest tables. Adding some antique and very elegant candelabras as your table centerpiece will be quite fitting. If you love flower centerpieces, some old but nice-looking vase can be used to house your Schwartzwalder calla lilies, but if you think the atmosphere is begging for a splash of colors,  then some pink and/or green flowers will be a cool alternative.

We will leave it to you on whether to get balloons, but if you decide to do so, we think that a white and/or black balloons are worthy additions to what you have prepared so far.

Butterfly Wedding Decorations

Choosing the right venue will save you a lot of decorations, so we’re great advocates of choosing the perfect venue.

A garden wedding is the perfect venue for a butterfly-themed wedding, since flowers and butterflies go perfectly together. But if you're having an outdoor wedding during the summer, you might want to go for a venue with lots of trees and shades. However, if you think an air-conditioned venue will be more to your taste, that should also be fine. Just ensure that your wedding venue decoration will include lots of flowers.

But if you feel you still need more decorations to accentuate your theme, adding tons of butterfly-shaped decorations in all sizes and colors will be quite fitting. Hearts "caught" in butterfly nets are cool additions as well. We also love the idea of a bubble machine in the picture and think they are worth considering.

You can go for either a flowery table cloth or a lacy one to adorn your guest tables. To add more pizzazz to your table, we think that a shallow dish containing some water, rose petals and a butterfly-shaped floating candle is a cool centerpiece idea. We also love the idea of lemons and/or limes submerged in a jar/vase of water since they will be a refreshing and colorful addition to your guest tables. Of course summer flowers like Gerber in old wine bottles are just perfect as table decorations. Adding a butterfly or two in the picture will not be amiss as well.

We will leave it to you on whether to get balloons, but we think that colorful balloons are the balloons that you want in your butterfly-themed wedding.

Celestial Wedding Decorations

Choosing the right venue will save you a lot of decorations, so we’re great advocates of choosing the perfect venue.

A night time wedding reception is a MUST if you’re having a celestial wedding. Any place that is perfect for star gazing is a cool venue for this wedding theme. The roof deck of any skyscraper is also another cool venue candidate.

If that open space and those glittery stars is not enough decoration for you, then just add some glow in the dark items, a telescope here and there, star and moon cutouts wrapped in silver or gold foil, some glitter lamps in the right places, cute pictures of the different zodiac signs, and so on. The right lighting will also add to the atmosphere you’re setting and we think some bubbles from your bubble machine will also be cool.

You can go for either a dark and silky table cloth to adorn your guest tables or a glittery one.  Either way, we think that adding a bowl full of glow in the dark items is a cool table decoration and so is a shallow dish with water and some star-shaped candles. Some star-shaped foil balloons or star flowers in an old wine bottle (we recommend that you also decorate the bottle with some glitters) will be just perfect.

Naming your tables either by planets or by some star names will stress your chosen theme so we suggest you go for it. Using some star-shaped or silvery place card holder is highly recommended.

Adding balloons on your celebration is definitely worth considering. For your celestial wedding, you can either go for glittery balloons or a number of balloons bunched together to look like a star. Both are fantastic additions to what you have prepared so far.
